Whatcha Wearing?
Vintage dress, for sale here in my style.ly boutique
Socks and cuff from H&M
Ring from Daylab
Combat boots that I bought a million years ago on a clearance table

I photograph the clothes in my etsy and style.ly shops on a mannequin since everything doesn't fit me and I want my listings to be uniform. That doesn't stop me from imagining how I would wear them! In fact, I imagine how I would wear just about every piece that I buy. Even though I make a point of styling the mannequin to show a complete outfit, I can't fully deck it out in accessories and shoes. That's where "How I'd Wear It" comes in.  Each week, I'm going to take some of the clothes I have for sale and do exactly that...show you how I'd wear it if I was to keep it for myself. And let me tell you, I have a hard time not keeping some of this stuff for myself!

This was another one of those long, shapeless, frumpy "teacher dresses". I just gave it a quick hem into super mini dress territory, and suddenly it's a bit of 90s grunge-style floral greatness! Super comfy and easy to wear. Striped socks for some fun pattern mixing and big combat boots for some ass-kicking complete the look.

How would you style this dress?

Last week I decided to try selling a couple dresses on a site I just learned about called style.ly, and to my great excitement, they both sold within a few hours! I've put together a set of items (some of which are pictured here) to sell there this week, hopefully with the same great results. You can visit my style.ly boutique at http://style.ly/boutique/Chrissi-Burnett-258540. Let me know what you think!
I have to say, I'm especially in love with the blue & white scalloped top in the first photo. Lucky for you that it's too small for me...

Whatcha Wearing?
Maxi dress, sandals, & sunglasses from H&M
J Crew shirt from Buffalo Exchange
Bag from Salvation Army
Bottle necklace from my mom

I wore this last night to see one of my favorite movies, Dr Strangelove, on the big screen for the first time. I have to say, it was a great experience seeing it with a crowd. So much laughter! If you're a fan of great films and live in LA, I highly recommend checking out the American Cinematheque's Aero Theatre. In the short amount of time we've lived here, we've already been there twice. They have a pretty amazing lineup of movies, so I can see us becoming regular customers.

Whatcha Wearing?
Silence + Noise top from Beacon's Closet
Levi's jeans from Crossroads Trading Co
Vintage hat from Atlantis Attic
Bag from Salvation Army
Shoes and cuff from Buffalo Exchange
Necklace from Daylab
Sunglasses from American Eagle
I have no idea where I found this belt!

Look, I'm not on my balcony! We headed to a friend's house last night for some drinks and a few rounds of a game called Wormhole 7. Imagine bocce + shuffleboard + space theme + a black light as a game in someone's backyard and you might start to have some understanding of what we were playing. Yes, it was made up in that very backyard and yes, the rules are still being formulated as we go, but it is so much fun to play! Perhaps someday it will be in everyone's backyard!

Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon

Whatcha Wearing?
Dress from some random cheap shop in NYC, can't remember
Sunglasses, cuff, and sandals from H&M

I had a great weekend that involved the beach, backyard grilling, and the company of good friends. Nice and relaxing! Nothing too exciting happening today, so I wore something simple and comfy for running errands. Sundress + flat sandals--it doesn't get any easier than that! I love that the supermarket is within walking distance of our new apartment. One of my biggest worries about moving from NYC to LA was that I'd have to drive everywhere. I got really used to walking all the time in Brooklyn, and really prefer that, so it's nice to still have that option.

Tropicália

Whatcha Wearing?
Vintage dress and hat from Buffalo Exchange
Vintage bracelet from Covered Bridge Antique Mall
Shoes from Payless (Isabel Toledo)

It's a hot one today (well, at least by coastal California standards), so I decided to wear this fun tropical dress I bought at the Santa Monica Buffalo Exchange a few months ago. It photographed quite well on our new balcony if I may say so myself! Expect to see this view in the background of a lot of my outfit posts going forward.
If you're in Cincinnati and looking for vintage jewelry or home goods, I highly recommend Covered Bridge Antique Mall in Mt Healthy. My friend Janice (hi, Janice!) used to work at a bank nearby and discovered it back when we all still lived in Cincy. It's a consignment place and is absolutely FULL of great finds, mostly at very reasonable prices. Store that tip away for the future...this isn't the kind of place you'll find in a guide book!

Domingo en Los Angeles

Whatcha Wearing?
Vintage Dress from St Vincent de Paul
Vintage tie (actually a belt from another dress)
Socks c/o We Love Colors (color: scarlet red)
Altama Army boots from Goodwill
Jelly bracelets that I've had forever

We finally made it to LA two weeks ago after spending a week in Cincinnati buying a car and visiting family and friends. It's starting to feel a bit more like home now that we're settling into our new apartment. We signed the lease a week ago and just about all the boxes are unpacked at this point.
I wore this outfit to dinner last night with some friends. We went to this great Mexican place that makes lethal margaritas that involve a large amount of tequila and Grand Marnier. You have to be careful with those!
This is the type of dress that I call a 'teacher dress'. You know, the kind of comfortable thing that your third grade teacher wore and that can now be found in abundance at thrift stores. I've found that all it takes is a quick slice and hem to update the look. No more frumpy 'teacher dress'! Also, I can safely say I never had a teacher who wore combat boots either...
