As you can see from the lack of change in my hair, I didn't end up doing that hair modeling job for Sassoon over the weekend. I think I also neglected to mention that I got that job I was interviewing for a couple of weeks ago. Yay! I started last week and everything is going great so far. You probably won't be seeing a ton of outfit posts from me until it starts staying light out later though. I work normal office hours every weekday, so that makes it difficult to take photos. For now, I'll stick to documenting my weekend wear.

Every now and again certain museums here in LA do free admission weekends, and this past weekend was one of them. Matt and I headed over to LACMA to see some art on Sunday. We've been meaning to check this museum out ever since we moved here, so this was a good excuse to get us there! We mostly just looked at the post-1900 section. They have a really nice collection! Now we just have to go back sometime before the end of June to check out the Stanley Kubrick exhibit. You had to pay the normal admission to see that over the weekend and we really just wanted to pop in while it was free and get a feel for the museum.

How I'd Wear It: Mad Men Cocktail Dress

Vintage dress available here in my Etsy shop
Earrings from sulu-design / Ring from Day-Lab

I just about died when I found this dress at the thrift store a couple of months ago. Perfect condition and gorgeous! I didn't even let myself try it on until it was already listed for sale in my shop. Unfortunately now I know that it fits me perfectly. I feel like Joan from Mad Men with this on. Well, more like Joan minus some key (ahem) assets, but I still feel fabulous.

I never really wear earrings anymore since my hair is always covering my ears. I don't know why, but I never wear my hair pushed back like this. Maybe I should do it a few times this week and see how it feels since my longish hair might be gone soon. I'm doing another hair modeling job for Vidal Sassoon this weekend, so I'll likely have a whole new look next week!

Velvet jacket from Salvation Army
Bracelet from Target / Shoes from Crossroads Trading Co

If you read a lot of fashion blogs, which most of you likely do, you've probably already heard of eShakti. I started noticing their cute dresses on blogs over the past few months, so I was super excited when they contacted me to see if I wanted to pick something out and do a review! The great thing is that you can customize their clothes to fit your size and style. I chose to do the customized sizing by entering all my measurements (you can also order by number sizes) and also changed the length of the skirt from below the knee to above the knee. Since they had my height, the length turned out perfectly! I honestly had a hard time deciding which dress to choose since they have so many great styles, but in the end this one won out. The green color is perfect with my hair, and I feel like I can wear it dressed up like I have here or more casually with a flat sandal in the summer. Their dresses are a bit pricey considering my usual thrifty nature, but they do have some really versatile pieces. Also, sometimes it's nice to splurge on something special, especially when you have the option to customize it and make it exactly what you want.

Vintage top and J. Crew blazer from Goodwill
Express pants from my friend Janice
Vintage shoes from Salvation Army

I had my second interview today and I think it went really well. This is what I wore. Again, it's a casual office, so I thought this was a nice balance of not-too-uptight, but professional. Also, I don't wear this blazer enough, and I really need to remedy that. It's so beautifully made! I love the quality of J. Crew's clothes and, luckily, seem to find lots of their stuff at thrift stores. Do you guys have a brand that you wouldn't normally splurge for, but love to find secondhand?

Studio by Liz Claiborne dress and vintage blouse from Goodwill
Tights from Forever21 / AK Anne Klein boots from Beacon's Closet

I wore this exact outfit for Thanksgiving and Festivus, but didn't have a chance to photograph it either time. If you don't know what Festivus is please educate yourself here. Our group of friends has been celebrating it every December 23 for the past 10 years!

I originally bought this dress for my Etsy shop thinking it was from the late 80s/early 90s. Well I was wrong. A little research showed me that it was actually from the mid-2000s and therefore not vintage at all! I was worried it wouldn't fit me since it's a petite size, but the only problem was the sleeves. I couldn't move my arms at all, so I just took them off. That made it perfect for layering! I love how there are mixed prints built into the dress with the polka dot underskirt, and thought it would be fun to take it one step further with the floral blouse. A few simple pieces, but a lot going on!

Taking photos out of the huge windows in our room at the Michelberger Hotel
Today as we were driving, Matt and I were talking about how we wish it was summer again already. I know we shouldn't be complaining considering that we have it pretty damn easy here when it comes to winter, but there it is! This made me think about the beginning of last summer when we took a trip to Europe to visit Berlin and Prague. I realized I never really got around to doing much of anything with all of our photos. Our move to LA a few short weeks after returning was probably to blame. So here are some outfit photos I never got around to posting. Better late than never!

Welcome to my pothole-filled alley! It's really kind of insane how many potholes are back there. Remember that wooden labyrinth game where you had to tilt the surface to navigate a metal ball around holes in the game board? That's what it's like driving a car in our alley.

Anyway, I wore this outfit today for a job interview. It was a casual office, so I figured classing up this mod dress with a blouse underneath would be a good choice. Not too stuffy, but it looks put together and professional. What do you think?

The Man Behind the Camera

Whatcha Wearing?
Vintage shirt from Goodwill / Levi's jeans
Tie and sweater from Target
Aston Grey boots from DSW

The fact that Matt let me take photos of him on Christmas is testament to how much he likes this outfit. Let's just say that he usually prefers to be behind the camera rather than in front of it!

Fun fact about Matt's glasses: they're actually prescription safety glasses with the protective side shields broken off. He got them when he worked a factory job back when we lived in Cincinnati, and decided he wanted to use them as his regular glasses after we moved to NYC. How thrifty!

Looking back at 2012

I took some time over the weekend looking at this blog and thinking about how far it's come in the past year. Here are some of my favorite outfits from 2012.
